Description

Inspired by Josh Nizzi's TF2 "Mugshot" concept art, this is a revised version of my much earlier Wheeljack headstudy found here: [link]

I was looking for an opportunity to improve and develop my use of texture manipulation and digital painting in Photoshop as well as develop some more professional quality concept designs for my portfolio. All textures and materials are public domain.

Transformers, all related characters and likenesses (c) Hasbro, Paramount/Dreamworks, and affiliates.

How in blazes did Paramount ever decide on the visual representation used in the movie when this sort of stuff was lying around as inspiration?

They seemed to abandon his iconic look early in favor of an uncharacteristically old, reserved, and bookish 'lab professor' appearance It was meant to emphasize his inventor aspect... which is famously hit-or-miss. The energetic, brash and often rude Wheeljack who devised dubious new equipment for fun turned into "Cue"... an elderly, timid Autobot that was a genius in the field of weapon design. Unless you were told, you literally could not tell they were supposed to be the same individual. Only a credit for "Wheeljack/Cue" was present in the movie to suggest it... in unclear terms.

In the end even the Bayverse powers-that-be decided they owed us an explanation for the change, and wrote a story revealing that Cue once did have Wheeljack's unmistakable likeness.
